Graphing Linear Equations: Full Body Style!
During a lesson, I would have students form groups of 3 to 4 people. Each group will be assigned an equation that they will graph on the floor of the classroom. The floor will have tape on it with labeled numbers on the axes. The tape on the group will represent the coordinate plane. When the students begin graphing on the floor, one person will act as the y-intercept, and the rest will represent the slope. The student that is acting as the y-intercept will start the graph, and the rest of the group members will continue the line. Students will represent each coordinate point included in the function. Once each group has successfully graphed the equation, I will change the y-intercept and or the slope. Then I will ask the group members to make the necessary adjustments to create this new equation. Students will have to explain why these are the correct adjustments. As each group is creating their equation, the rest of the class will be following along in their packet.
